The Classic Cellular 2D Cellular Automaton


This is a Java applet that implements Life, the two-dimensional cellular automaton designed by the famous mathematician John Horton Conway. This particular applet is multi-threaded, as I designed it for a parallel programming class. When you run it, you're given the option of what size to run it at, how many threads to use, and how big to zoom it. Unless you have a multiprocessor system, you won't notice any speedup from using multiple threads. A zoom of 1 or 2 looks best, and sizes up to about 300x300 run fine even on older systems.
