night driving

by Santiago

night driving
gentle rain
been falling all week
almost like bradbury's venus
soft engine hum
tires splashing in puddles
subtle violins
flowing through the radio
beethoven maybe
passing car
two flaming crimson demon eyes
broad black face
cold mist of lower hell billowing
towards my face
stopped by chill glass
climbing higher
ascent to a black heaven
mind full of poetry
and old friends
on who and what and why we are
smooth curve
twisting left
hands gripping vinyl
easy power
instant control
light ahead
familiar trees
